About

This website

My name is Imanol Miranda and this website, the Curandero Project is the result of my work photographing Mexican Folk Healing since 2014.

The project began after a meeting I had with renown scholar of Curanderismo Dr. Eliseo “Cheo” Torres. In 2014, Dr. Torres invited me to photograph the yearly Traditional Medicine Without Borders class at the University of New Mexico. As a result, I became fascinated with photographing the traditions of Mexican folk healing.

After the class, I wanted to continue the photographic work and learn more. I also noticed that there is not a lot of scholarly books or blogs on Curanderismo that include photography. This website is an attempt to fill that void.
